FLEAC proactively identifies, supports and endorses initiatives that may benefit Florida's families in need. Through advocacy efforts, FLEAC reaches out to the power brokers and decision makers who influence regulations, laws and resources on behalf of those seeking help.

  • 04/09/09 – FLEAC letter to Sens. Martinez and Nelson – LIHEAP FY 2010 Funding Endorsement

    In an April 9 letter to Florida Sens. Martinez and Nelson, FLEAC urged the support of FY 2010 LIHEAP funding at the fully authorized level of $5.1 billion, and requested both senators to join a "Dear Colleague" Senate letter indicating their support.

  • 04/02/09 – FLEAC letter to Rep. Wasserman-Schultz, et alLIHEAP FY 2010 Funding Endorsement

    On April 2, FLEAC contacted U.S. House Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and other Florida members of the House Appropriations Committee, seeking their support of FY 2010 LIHEAP funding at the fully authorized level of $5.1 billion.

  • 09/22/08 – FLEAC letter to House Speaker Pelosi, et alLIHEAP FY 2009 Funding Endorsement

    On Sept. 22, as a followup to FLEAC visits to Washington, D.C. for face-to-face meetings with House members on Sept.18, FLEAC wrote to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and other key House members, seeking their support of FY 2009 LIHEAP funding at the fully authorized level of $5.1 billion. LIHEAP was eventually fully funded with congressional support, and signed by President Bush on Sept. 30.

    In a Feb. 22 letter to Florida Sens. Martinez and Nelson, Florida Department of Community Affairs Secretary Thomas Pelham urged both senators to support FY 2009 funding for LIHEAP at the fully authorized level of $5.1 billion.

  • 01/22/08 Florida Rep. Bill Young's letter to FLEACLIHEAP Emergency Funds Release

    In a Jan. 22 letter to FLEAC from Rep. Young, he advised of a recent LIHEAP contingency funding release, bringing  more than $2 million in payment assistance funding to Florida.

  • 12/11/07 FLEAC Letter to U.S. SenateEndorsement of FY 2008 LIHEAP Funding Proposal from Sen. Dole (R-NC)

    In an Dec. 11 letter to Sens. Mel Martinez and Bill Nelson, FLEAC urged both to endorse and sign Sen. Dole's proposal so that any new 2008 LIHEAP funding be allocated equally between base and contingency (emergency) funds.

    In an Oct. 10 letter to various U.S. congressional representatives, FLEAC urged Congress to consider the House-recommended funding for FY 2008, with a reallocation of a portion of emergency funds into base.

    In a Sept. 7 letter to the White House, FLEAC implored President Bush to release LIHEAP contingency funds, to help qualified Florida households with their high summer energy bills.
